Why You Need Radon Detectors
Radon is a radioactive gas. It is invisible and odorless. We may not even know it is present. It can be found through out the world. It is also very dangerous to our health. It is a carcinogen and exposure to it over long time can cause cancer. Fortunately there are radon detectors to help us determine if radon gas is present. Radon is the second leading cause of lung cancer. Because radon is invisible and odorless, many people may not even know they are being exposed to it.
The only way to know if you have a problem is to use radon detectors.
Radon moves through the soil underneath the house. Most radon that comes into the home is from underneath the soil when the air pressure underneath the house tries to escape through the cracks and vents. The house can draw a lot of the indoor air from the soil underneath it if it has poorly sealed foundations and several points of entry. Ideally radon gas should be checked when you buy the house or when you start construction. Just because your neighbor doesn’t have a high level of radon does not mean you will not.
Radon is a big health hazard but it is also one of the easiest to detect with the use of radon detectors. The use of radon detectors are inexpensive and easy to do, usually taking only minutes to determine how much radon is around. Once you know you have the high levels of radon, it is relatively easy to fix and not that costly. Many areas with very high levels of radon can be reduced to satisfactory levels. Simple methods of sealing foundation cracks and other openings help reduce your radon levels.
Radon detectors help make your home safe. You should test your home before you move in to determine if you have the high levels of radon. If you do and you have to do radon mitigation, it is always best to test again after you have fixed the problem to determine if what you did is working. It is extremely important to use radon detectors because of the high-risk exposure to radon can cause. It is a life threatening gas that is undetectable without the use of radon detectors. You could be putting your life in danger if you do not test for radon. Radon detectors are a way to keep your family safe from a very deadly gas.
