Being More Time Efficient When You Run Your Business
Running your own business means that you need to organize your time well. In addition to your business, you have a family or a social life too. Plus, you can get lost in daily circumstances and finish each day feeling you didn’t accomplish enough. One book that is excellent is called the 4 hour work week. It is about learning how to batch your time and group activities together so you don’t start over each time. Once you are in the zone, you can get a lot done.
Often we need to write letters for our businesses and they really can be done using templates. It makes sense to not start from scratch but instead use ready made business letters which you can customize easily and edit. You don’t need to create an original letter about a shipping inquiry or late payment letter, but instead model yours on sample business letters . Another way to save time is to not check your email every 10 minutes. Going back and forth between several activities can be a distraction.
When you work for yourself you need to think about health insurance and other things that aren’t taken care of by a boss. It’s also important to get living will information so others know what you want. Sure, none of us want to think about this, but it’s a good idea. In the 4 hour work week he batches his time- ie does all the emails at once and makes his tasks grouped. For instance, if you write articles, it makes sense to do all the research at once for the articles you need to do for the day. That way you are already in a writing state of mind and don’t have to start over and begin anew each time looking up information on websites. We work better when we batch what we do rather than perform isolated acts.
eBay Success for Beginners
Most internet marketers get their start by selling things on E-bay. What was once basically the internet’s biggest garage sale has now become the jumping off point for many an internet marketing career. If you’ve been thinking about making a go of internet marketing, selling things on e-bay part time can be a great way for you to decide whether or not you and internet marketing would fit well together. Believe it or not, finding big success on E-bay takes more effort than simply listing your old clothes and hoping someone buys them. Here are some hints that you can use to increase your E-bay success.
Always include a picture with your listing. E-bay listings that have pictures are far more likely to lead to sales than listings with no pictures. The fact is that people like to see what it is that they will be buying before they actually spend money. It sounds cliché but in this case, a picture really is worth more than a thousand (or more) words. After all, you can describe something down to the very tiniest detail but until the buyer sees proof of what you are writing they probably won’t believe you.
Before you list your product on e-bay, do some research. Search for items that are similar to (or even the same as) yours. Check out the listings. Take into account how much the seller is asking for his product at both the “Buy Now price and a starting bid on an auction. Pay particular attention to the listings that have the most bids and views. See what works for you and what doesn’t. Then, figure out a way to make your own product listing better! This is basic market research strategy. Figure out what is working for others and then figure out how to do better!
Before you start listing things on E-bay, learn everything you can about their shipping rules and pricing. This is where a lot of e-bay listers make their profits: by increasing their shipping prices. There are also a lot of different ways to ship items to buyers. Make sure you know the difference between them so that you can choose the method that is best for you and what you are selling. You’ll want to be up front about the shipping method that you are using and make sure that it is plainly spelled out in your listing.
Selling on E-bay is a great way to make money online. This is how many people get a taste for internet marketing and making money on the internet. The reason E-bay is so popular is because it is set up to be easy to use. Anybody can make money by selling items on E-bay. In fact, this is often how people make extra money when their bank accounts get low or they need to bring in extra cash. The fact is that E-bay is a great way for anybody to get started selling online.

Taxes and the USA
That is what was supposed to happen with this administration. Low and behold we now have to deal with the new and complicated VAT or Value Added Tax. This tax would be applied to all purchases so the more you spend the more you are taxed. Poor people will be hit very hard and as if that were not enough, the resulting inflation will just add to there inability to provide for their families.
Proponents state that this tax will hardly be noticed by the average consumer and opponents imply that this will take us into the next surge of inflation. Who is right? We will have to see as no one has yet to say how much a purchase will be taxed and what amount. The VAT will be over and above any income tax raises. Think about buying a loaf of bread. Your $2.00 loaf of bread just became, lets say $2.10. Does not seem like much but when you add this dime to everything you purchase, a big chunk of your income is effected.
So now the poor buy a loaf of bread. The lower income people will have 5% less buying power. The government realizes this and raises the food stamp allotment by 5% to accomadate the loss of buying power. Now the food stamp program costs 5% more than it did when they added the tax. People with higher incomes will go across the northern and southern borders to avoid this tax on big ticket items. Americans will lose jobs to this. When thinking of this new VAT, I cannot help but wonder what the administration is thinking?
Workplace Productivity through Productivity Training
Workplace productivity is a major concern for most businesses. All in all, I’m pretty happy with how 2009 turned out. My business is taking off. I’ve built a solid foundation to support even more growth (which I forecast for 2010) and I’ve even managed to take some time off. I’d like other entrepreneurs and business owners to feel as good about their business as I do about mine, so I thought I’d take a moment to share 5 things I attribute to my successful 2009.
1. Attended seminars. This one is HUGE. Nothing beats getting out of your office and away from your computer and actually meeting people face to face. I’ve come away from these events with clients, joint venture partners, and more. (And that doesn’t even include the great information I absorbed and was able to put to use in both my business and my clients’ businesses.) If you only put one of my 5 tips to use, this would be the one to do — that’s how valuable I’ve discovered attending seminars to be and it can really impact productivity.
2. Hired a coach. Again, this was another tough decision to make, but I’m really glad I did. It’s difficult to see your business objectively, so having a neutral observer on your team is extremely valuable. Coaches help you get out of your own way (and believe me, that’s a biggie for us entrepreneurs.) They can help you with both your inner game (your habits and mindset) and your outer game (your skills and business structure).
3. Started systemizing my business. Unless you want to be chained to your business night and day, you have got to start systemizing your business. Yes, all businesses should have systems in place, even if you don’t have anyone else working for you and you primarily sell services. The best part is when you do have systems in place, your business suddenly starts running a lot more efficiently and effectively (and you can start sleeping better at night and relaxing on vacation).
4. Outsourced. For all you control freaks out there, this one is for you. If you don’t start hiring some help, I guarantee you’ll never be able to grow your business through productivity training because you’ll be constantly doing tasks you have no business doing. Do yourself a favor and get some help…NOW. I’ve just hired a project manager/director of client services, plus I have 2 backup writers and 2 virtual assistants. Building a team has been a big stress reliever for me.
5. Focused on my inner game. Shifting my mindset away from “freelancer” to “business owner” was another big piece of the puzzle. As soon as I made that shift, all the other four techniques fell into place because it suddenly made them easier to do.
It’s tough to change your inner game on your own — hiring a coach is probably the fastest way to do this. But there are some good resources out there if you want to begin dabbling in it first. Do a search and see what comes up, I started my journey with free ezines and articles.
Creativity Exercise — Make 2010 the best year ever.
Go back and reread my list. Now get out a piece of paper and start brainstorming ways you can integrate my tips into your business. Which one do you think will bring the quickest results? Which one will be more difficult for you to start doing? Which is the one you SHOULD be doing?
Have fun with this exercise, really play around and see what comes up. Don’t censor yourself, just write down the answers that bubble up even if it doesn’t seem right. You might discover something important about yourself and your business that might be the key to launching you forward faster than you ever dreamed possible.
MPLS and Its Role With VoIP
Perhaps the biggest success thus far for MPLS is its deepening of the VoIP (Voice-over Internet Protocol), which is a leading candidate for the future of doing business via telecommunications.
VoIP essentially allows for a computer network to double as a telephone line. VoIP is typically cheaper than even the best unlimited call plans for digital telephone connections.
For the last few years, it has been expected that with the ever-increasing prevalence of WANs and VoIP networks, MPLS network would provide a natural evolution toward even greater and more widespread implementation of VoIPs.
With the MPLS network’s layer 2 to layer 3 connectivity power, VoIP service providers such as leading provider Vonage, ATT, Sprint, and so on and so forth can now give the benefit of their core infrastructure over to their business VoIP clients, making their service faster, clearer, more reliable, and more robust than the kind of connection normally achieved by the public Internet.
A lot of businesses that are realizing the growing need for real-time application prioritization and end-to-end connectivity and are using VoIP are seeing how perfectly it work in concert with MPLS.
One business in particular which has already benefitted from MPLS’ convergence with VoIP is the Inheritance Funding Company (IFC).
IFC currently has over 160 telephone in its business VoIP system, which it implemented two and a half years ago because “Maintenance and reliability became pressing issues. It was time to consider an alternative” to the status quo business phone system, according to IFC CIO Jim Norman.
By the middle of 2006, IFC tech saw the need to enhance the taxed VoIP with an MPLS network to make calls more robust and reliable so that there weren’t transmission hiccups, dropped calls, echoes in the ear, voices suddenly going distant, and other problems.
Says Norman, “If we wanted to get the quality that we wanted, we had to go with MPLS,” Norman said. “We wanted reliability, convenience and efficiency…From an administrative standpoint, we now have control of the phone system from here for all branches, and from anywhere, really.”
According to Robbie Harrell of Unified Communications, an online company serving IT and business professionals, “MPLS is useful as an enabler for VoIP because it provides Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM)-like capabilities with an IP network.
Unlike the expensive ATM links that would be required to support VoIP, MPLS network provides guaranteed services utilizing IP quality of service on the carrier’s backbone. This service and the ability to converge VoIP onto the data network present a tremendous opportunity to reduce operational costs and consolidate infrastructures.”
Knowing more about business phone service and voice t1 and other technologies that would benefit your entire business process is definitely a must, how you connect with your clients and provide service will greatly depend on the technologies and connections you acquire.
