Caring for Cigars with Boveda Packs
I have been smoking for quite a few years now, and I always paid close attention to new cigar humidification products. While I had always done a pretty good job of keeping my cigars in good smoking condition with my various humidors and travel humidor, there just never seemed to be an extremely easy, foolproof way to care for my cigars.
Some products required mixing distilled water with PG. While it worked ok, it seemed that I still had to keep a close eye on my hygrometer and cigars. Even with following directions carefully, it seemed my cigars would get a little over humidified at times.
Other humidifiers had special foam that required no chemicals. I tried them, but humidity also seemed to be a bit on the high side. You could use little tricks like covering part of the vents on the humidifier with a piece of tape, but it was far from perfect.
Also, most of the cigar humidification products were designed to keep cigars at 70-72% humidity. While 70% humidity is an old standby, some people prefer their cigars to be a little drier. There are folks who store their cigars as low as 60% humidity. I had always wanted to
store my cigars at about 65% humidity, but it was tough to do with existing products.
Then along comes the Boveda Pack. I found out about these while on the internet. These are sealed packets. Each packet humidifies about 50 cigars, and they last for about 3 months if you have a tight sealing humidor. They are sealed unit, so you do not add chemicals or water, they are ready to use.
Here’s the best thing about them, they are available in 72%, 69% and 65%. So they offer 3 different humidity levels to store your cigars at. It has never been so easy to take care of your cigars. I have been using the 65% in a small desktop, and a humidor jar, and my cigars are smoking perfectly.
In my desktop, I use 3 Boveda Packs. They lasted 3 months during the winter, and they lasted longer last summer. In my humidor jar, 1 Boveda Pack has been in there for 1 year, and its still going strong. I guess that the humidor jar is so airtight, that the Bovada Pack lasts longer in there than in a wood desktop that leaks a little bit. You know it’s time to replace them when the packs start to turn hard, and they get thinner. That means that they have used up all the distilled water that was in the Boveda.
The best thing about using the Boveda Packs is that I do not have to worry about my cigars. All I have to do is check the Bovedas once in a while to make sure they still have water in them. When dry, just replace. It’s too easy to use a Boveda Pack, they truly are one of the best cigar humidification products.
